Why it is important and how to teach?
Technology and race against the time in today’s modern world has impacted children more than we think. Just see the language that they use for TXT messages. Home school grammar is nothing more than teaching kids appropriate behavior in the form of speech and writing. Changing a student’s vocabulary by not allowing the student to talk slang is the first thing that can be done to increase proper home school grammar.
If people today spend any time listening to teenagers speak, they might be appalled at what they hear. Public schools aren’t doing enough to change the way kids talk. Home school grammar can make kids change their way of speaking, reading, and writing.
The parent can and should put emphasis on proper pronunciation. Kids today are busy with many activities including text messaging, computer time and video games. It is easy to see how grammar takes a back seat in a kid’s life.
As a nation, American kids are lagging well behind other nations when it comes down to the level of education. In a lot of foreign countries, learning English is compulsory for several years. It’s sad to say, but students living in other countries may actually know more about American grammar than students in our own nation.
Teaching Home School Grammar
When a parent is trying to teach grammar to a teenager, there will most likely be some friction in the home. Kids have always wanted freedom and many get that freedom by using a language with words that parents don’t understand.
Grammar is much easier to teach younger children. Even with an attitude, teenagers need to learn how to speak correctly. If the parent gives up they are doing a disservice to their child. Once the children grow up and move out they may have a difficult time finding employment.
Employers do not want to hire someone who can’t speak well in normal conversation. Just being able to speak in clear and concise English will put some people ahead of others.
Having a job, such as a salesperson, won’t even be considered. These can be the type of jobs that pay very well. Home school grammar sets a child up for success in the real world.
A parent teaching home schooled children grammar is an essential in giving the student the best possible tools for a future in college or in the workplace. Students will probably speak the way that they want to but they should also understand correct grammar.
Teach and enforce proper usage of grammar at your home school. Your kids will one day thank you for giving them all of the tools to be successful in their own life.
